Sjpharma
offers the SJ series of Automatic Tube Filling & Closing/Sealing
machines SJ
80 and SJ
150 which are compact rotary machines which fill ointment/cream
in cylindrical aluminium collapsible/lami/coextruded plastic
tubes and close it absolutely safely and symmetrically. SJ
80 has been designed to give medium speed tube filling
and closing/sealing to meet today's packaging demands and
conform with GMP standards whereas SJ 150 is the high
speed model which is a twin head version of the former.

The
empty tubes are first loaded in the cassette, which
then travels through the guides to be held in the feeder
by vacuum. The tube is then fed into the tube holder
by the feeder. The tube holders are fitted on the circular
turret which intermittently takes the tube to all the
stations.
-
The
tube then passes through the centering station which
presses the tube from top and lodges it into the tube
holder. It then travels to the orientation station for
positioning the ‘I’ mark. Here the tube is lifted and
revolved. The moment the ‘I’ mark comes in front of
the scanner, the tube stops revolving and comes down.
It is then carried to the filling station where the
dosing action of the piston in the cylinder forces out
the required volume of material through the hose pipe
onto the suck back device and then from the nozzle into
the tube. The tube then travels through the individual
pressing, crimping and coding stations after which it
is ejected out at the ejecting station.
-
In
case of lami/plastic tubes, after the filling station,
the tube travels to the hot air blowing station where
hot air is blown onto the inside of the end of the tube
by a nozzle having holes on its periphery. The tube
then goes to the sealing station where the tube is pressed
and sealed. It then travels to the dual coding & trimming
station where the tube is first coded with metal stereos
on the seal and the irregular shape at the tube end
is trimmed by a set of blades. It is then ejected out
at the next station.

The
strongest point of SJ Series of machines
is its pump head dosing mechanism. This is a compact
design with bearings fitted to avoid rubbing of
the ointment dosing valve and the outer sleeve
in which it is placed. Seals are provided on both
sides of the valve to avoid leakage of the ointment. The
piston is made of teflon & the cylinder of s.s.316.
The advantage in having dual material is less
wear & tear, accurate filling & cGMP standards.
-
The
Geneva mechanism which is the indexing system
of the machines is absolutely positive and trouble-free.
-
One
of the most striking features of the machines
is the suckback device, which is provided at the
ointment filling station. This device cuts the
rat-tail of ointment, formed during filling, without
any spurting of the ointment, as is the case with
its blow-off counter part. To add to it is the
special shut-off nozzle which can be fitted for
filling viscous syrups besides ointment, creams
and gels.
-
Changeover
is effected quickly with a minimum of change parts
due to the rotary nature of the machine

Check
Devices & Safety Fetures
: |
-
No
tube - No fill device which makes sure that filling
does not take place if tube is not present at
the filling station. At the orientation station,
when the tube is lifted, its presence is checked
by a sensor and this signal is relayed to the
filling station. Hence if a tube is not there,
the dosing action does not take place and hence
there is no fill.
-
If
the tube is not ejected out by the ejector, the
machine stops in order to avoid damages.
-
In
case of any jamming on the indexing system, to
avoid breakages, the load is sensed by the variable
drive through the PLC & the machine stops automatically.
|
-
Elevator
type cassette feed device which has a holding
capacity of upto 10,000 tubes of 1/2" tube diameter.
This cassette is located on the floor and it feeds
tubes automatically to the infeed device.
-
Tube
cleaning device for cleaning the tube wherein
compressed air is first pumped in and the unsettled
dust is sucked out by suction and collected in
an extractor. This device is located before the
infeed device on the tube guides.
-
A
jacketed hopper for heating the ointment in case
of jelly/wax like behaviour of ointment.
-
Stirring device to stir the ointment for easy
flow from the hopper to the dosing valve.
-
A
third crimping station if a third crimp or the
rocket type fold is required.
-
If
the SJ 80 or SJ 150 is subsequently
linked with our Cartonator SJ 180
with the help of our Link-up mechanism, an extra
ejector can be attached after the main ejector.
During the down time of the cartonator, the main
ejector stops functioning & the tube travels to
the extra ejector where it is ejected and collected.
The tubes can then be fed manually on our cartonator,
even when both the machines are on because the
SJ 180 is usually set to run at
a speed which is 15% higher than the filling machine.
Hence, there is no wastage of time nor break in
production.
CHANGE-OVER
The rotary turret of the machine ensures that individual
stations need not be set separately. The turret can
be lowered or raised according to the tube length.
For change in diameter of the tube, very few parts
like tube holder, tube guides, feeder, divider etc.
are to be changed. For major changes in volumes, the
piston & cylinder set has to be changed which is also
effected very fast. All in all, due to the chunk of
the change-over being taken care by the turret, the
total change-over should not take more than 30 minutes.
